Land O'Lakes. Where simple goodness begins™ Land O'Lakes
Brownies Lesson

As an introduction to the lesson, the class period should include a discussion of the various reasons why a student would choose to make a brownie "from scratch."

Purchase a brownie baking mix. In this discussion and in the evaluation section, students can read and compare homemade brownie ingredients to the baking mix.

Sample questions:
  • What type of brownies do you enjoy?
  • What would be the advantages of making brownies from a recipe rather than from a convenience mix?
  • Why do homemade brownies taste fresher than purchased brownies or brownies made from a convenience baking mix?
Students ages 14 - 17: Additional point of discussion:
What variations in recipes might affect the final outcome of the brownies?
