What's On Trend?
Cheese Courses

What's On Trend? The old-world, European tradition of the cheese course, serving several cheeses to form a separate course at the end of the meal, is fashionable today.

Growing interest in artisan cheeses, typically thought of as fancy, European-style cheeses, is one reason why the cheese course has become popular.

Creating This Trend
Many of the qualities (delicious flavors, fine craftsmanship, innovation, and rigorous standards) that produce artisan cheeses are also found in your favorite LAND O LAKES® Cheeses.

Choose one of our cheese platter recipes for your next party such as the Cheese & Fruit Platter or the Most Versatile Platter. Both platters combine at least five varieties of cheese with different colors, flavors and textures.
Tips and How To's
A two-ounce serving of each cheese per person is perfect if the cheese platter is an appetizer or dessert. Double the amount if the cheese is the entire meal.

Look for variety in flavor and texture. Creamy, rich LAND O LAKES® Havarti Cheese pairs well when served with a distinctly sharp cheddar cheese or combine the mild, sweet, nutty flavor of LAND O LAKES® Swiss Cheese with the robust heat of LAND O LAKES® Pepper Jack Cheese - an interesting couple!

Cheese tastes best at room temperature. Platters can be arranged 2 hours ahead of time, covered with plastic wrap and refrigerated. Let platters stand covered, at room temperature 30 minutes before serving.

Create labels for each variety of cheese so everyone can remember his or her favorites.

Provide decorative wooden or plastic picks or several small cocktail size forks for serving cheese cubes and a cheese server for the slices.

Offer classic cheese pairings. Serve cheese with rustic or artisan breads, interesting crackers, nuts, olives, and dried fruits.
